7,000일 동안 강정마을 생명평화운동은 제주도에서 군사주의와 환경 파괴에 맞서 싸워왔습니다. 2007년 마을의 정신적·문화적 중심지인 구럼비 바위를 지키기 위한 투쟁으로 시작된 이 운동은 동아시아 현대사에서 가장 오랫동안 지속된 비폭력 저항운동 가운데 하나가 되었습니다. 해군기지는 2016년에 완공되었으며, 현재는 태평양 지역에서 한국과 미국 해군의 작전을 지원하는 역할을 하고 있습니다. 그러나 마을 주민들과 활동가들은 여전히 저항을 이어가고 있습니다. 매일 오전 7시 ‘생명평화 백배’, 오전 11시 ‘생명평화 미사’, 정오 12시 ‘인간띠 잇기’, 그리고 할망물식당에서 함께하는 공동 식사를 통해 그들의 실천은 계속되고 있습니다.
For 7,000 days, the Gangjeong Village Peace and Life Movement has been challenging militarism and environmental destruction on Jeju Island, South Korea. Beginning in 2007 with the defense of Gureombi Rock, the spiritual and cultural heart of the village, it became one of the most sustained nonviolent resistance movements in recent East Asian history. The base was completed in 2016 and today serves South Korean and US naval operations in the Pacific. Villagers and activists continue their resistance with four daily actions: the 100 Bows of Life and Peace at 7am, the Peace and Life Mass at 11:00, the Human Chain at 12:00, and a shared meal at the Halmangmul Sikdang (Grandmother Water Restaurant).
